Rent Changes 2024/25: DO NOT update Universal Credit (UC) journal until after 1 April 2024

09 February 2024

This month (February 2024) all Torus customers will receive their rent change 2023/24 letter, it is important that those claiming Universal Credit (UC) DO NOT report a change of circumstances regarding the rent increase in their Universal Credit journal until after the 1 April 2024.

The new rent costs only come into effect from the 1 April, until then the rent remains at the current amount.

Please keep your rent change letter safe, so that you have the information of the new rent so you can go onto your UC Journal, after 1 April 2024 to update the claim.

UC claimants should only update their new rent costs, when the 'Confirm your housing costs' message appears on the UC journal ‘To-do List’ from the DWP. This should not be done until after 1 April, but it has to be done before the end of your ‘Monthly Assessment Period, in which the rent change occurred.

What can you do if you have already made the changes?

You will just need to remember to update it again, when the 'Confirm your housing costs' message appears on your journal ‘To-do List’, which will be after the 1 April 2024, following the instructions provided.
