Applying for a rented home in Warrington

Under One Roof in Warrington is not a choice based letting service, so properties won’t be advertised, meaning that you won’t be able to see properties.  Available properties are matched to eligible applicants dependent upon areas of choice.

You can apply for one of our homes using the Under One Roof website. This is Warrington Borough Council’s housing allocations scheme.

How to apply for a home using Under One Roof

Step 1 – Getting ready

Moving home can be expensive, especially if you’re setting up a home for the first time. We don’t charge big deposits or fees, but we may ask you to pay at least one week’s rent in advance, even if you’re on housing benefit.

We advise putting money to one side to cover these expenses.

Step 2 - Applying

If you’re interested in renting a home from us, you’ll need to register with Under One Roof.

You must be over 18 and meet certain eligibility criteria.

You may not be able to join Under One Roof if:

  • You earn more than £60,000 a year or own assets worth more than £24,000
  • You have been found guilty of unacceptable behaviour in the past
  • You owe money for housing-related costs

The application must be done online.

Once you’ve submitted your online application, we'll check the information you've given us is correct and that you can provide evidence to support your situation and the housing band you've been given.

You may need to provide information from support agencies or other professionals that you're involved with.

Don't worry, we'll let you know what information you'll need to provide and when.

Properties are allocated in line with Warrington Borough Councils Housing Allocations Policy.

Step 3 – Matching

Homes are not advertised and you will not be able to place a bid for any.

You won't be able to see which homes are available or choose ones you're interested in.

You'll be directly matched when available homes, that you meet the criteria for, become available in the areas you have chosen.

You can tell us which areas you'd most like to live in but Under One Roof can't guarantee that homes in these areas will be available.

Step 4 - Allocation

Once Under One Roof has checked your application details, they send your information over to Torus, this is called a nomination.

The landlord will then contact you directly and carry out their own checks. This may include an affordability check. If you meet their criteria, you'll be made an offer and invited to view the property.

Step 5 – Viewings and sign-ups

Once all checks are complete, Torus arranges an appointment to show you the property.

If you accept it,  you will be contacted to arrange a convenient time to sign the tenancy agreement once the works are competed.  After this you'll get your keys and can move in!
