Torus Foundation awarded licence to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for young communities

20 August 2021

Torus Foundation is delighted to have been awarded a license to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes for young people.

As the charitable arm of North West growth and regeneration group Torus, Torus Foundation’s mission ‘for stronger communities’ includes a strong focus on partnering with young people, to build confidence, learn new skills and reach their full potential.

Delivering The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes is a perfect fit for the Foundation and will enable young people from local communities to participate in award-winning, life-changing programmes.

Initially, staff based at the Foundation’s FireFit Hub in South Liverpool will run the Bronze award programme. Participants will join sessions focused on skills building, volunteering and physical activity, and complete an expedition.

The first enrolments will start in the autumn, recruiting young members from the Hub.

With established partnerships in place with organisations across Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington, plans are in place to encourage more young people across Torus communities to engage with this fantastic opportunity.

Kate Shone, Managing Director at Torus Foundation said,

“This is an incredible accolade for the Foundation and the wider Torus Group, which continues to work on enhancing the quality and quantity of provision available to young people across our key geographies.

“Despite a tough year, an opportunity like this will play a crucial role in supporting our young Torus communities to thrive and I know our staff and young people are up for the challenge.”

Colin Scicluna, Head of Youth at Torus Foundation adds,

“We’re fortunate to be able to work with enthusiastic, talented and inspiring young members at FireFit Hub. We know many will exceed all expectations of the Award.

“Whether it’s members from the Hub or young people across other Torus neighbourhoods, it’s going to be an exciting time for young participants to discover new interests and talents, while helping to build skills that could prepare them for the workplace and life in general.”

As well as the Foundation’s distinct Youth offer, one of five key focus areas of support, the wider team continues to deliver a spectrum of opportunities for young people.

By building employment skills and recruiting to training placements, each step is enabling them to become more job ready. This demonstrates not only the Foundation’s, but the wider Torus Group’s commitment to the future of our young communities.

Helen Foster, Regional Director for the North at The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, adds,

“In a rapidly changing world, supporting young people to develop their skills, adaptability and resilience is more important than ever. We are delighted to see Torus Foundation supporting their young people’s personal development through the DofE. We look forward to following their progress as they work towards achieving their DofE Awards.”

Once opportunities to be a part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award are available, details will be made available on both www.fierefithub.org.uk and www.torusfoundation.org.uk. In the meantime head to [www.firefithub.org.uk/doe]www.firefithub.org.uk/doe)
