17 January 2025
Torus has announced its Flood Support Hub in Warrington will stay open for another week to help affected tenants who have in turn praised the support received.
Located at 41 Southworth Avenue, Bewsey the hub is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm as Torus continues to support those affected by the New Year’s Day floods.
Torus has also dedicated a Neighbourhood Officer to every tenant as a primary contact for ongoing help.
Tenants and the leader of Warrington Borough Council have recognised the efforts and support from Torus’ frontline and back office team members.
Ann Hoyles who lives in Bewsey was affected when her home flooded and she said:
“I want to thank Torus and its Neighbourhood Team for their fantastic support during the recent flooding incident, they have made the whole negative situation a lot easier.
“Their care and empathy has gone a long way and I’m really grateful for all Torus has done for me.
“Due to my incapacity, I usually have to rely on my sisters visiting my bungalow to check up on me but despite Torus being really busy they’ve be on hand to help.
“They have found me temporary accommodation and they took the time to find me a home that is suitable to my needs – they have gone over and above in their role.
“Without Torus’ support, I would have struggled to get through the past few weeks.”
Chief Executive of Warrington Borough Council, Professor Steven Broomhead MBE, said:
“Torus should be very proud of its team for their hard work and effective partnership approach.
“Torus provided – and continue to provide - important support to their tenants who have been affected.
“During the flooding event, they worked very well with wider multi-agency partners on the ‘front line’ of the response, despite the challenging circumstances.”
Group Director of Housing Services at Torus, Paul Warburton, said:
“We would like to thank tenants for their understanding in very difficult and upsetting circumstances and we will continue keeping them informed as repairing homes from such damage can take months in some cases.
“Our frontline and back office teams have been working in the affected communities since New Year’s Day, putting in long shifts well into the night and over the weekend with extra staff drafted in from Liverpool and St Helens to help tenants as best we could.
“It has been all hands on deck with our Chief Executive driving the minibus back and forth to take people from their homes to their temporary accommodation and going to supermarkets to buy them food.
“To make sure we reached everyone, we knocked on every door and spoke directly with tenants to understand their individual circumstances to tailor the help and support we can give.”
