Torus Group’s excellence in skills and employability recognised

29 November 2022

Torus Group has been presented with the top award for Skills and Employability at the recent Liverpool Chamber Innovation in Business Awards.

As the North West’s largest affordable homes provider, Torus Group works with a wide range of partners, investing group profits in health and wellbeing, education, social and economic initiatives that improve the lives of local people and help to build stronger communities.

Torus Foundation, the charitable part of the Torus Group, works with key partners to make a positive difference to communities through key focus areas: providing employment and skills opportunities, helping people make the most of their income through financial inclusion, building people's skills and confidence online with digital inclusion, providing safe and engaging activities for young people and looking at ways for communities to make improvements to their health and wellbeing.

In 2021/22 alone, through initiatives with Torus Foundation, 1,848 individuals accessed employability support, with 1,004 of those gaining an employment and training opportunities.

HMS, as part of the Torus Group, takes every penny it makes in profit and reinvests it to help fund the vital work of community initiatives like Torus Foundation.

Hard work, Dedication and Focus

Catherine Murray-Howard, Chief Operating Officer, Torus Group, said:

“It was an incredible honour, to accept this year’s Skills and Employability award with colleagues on behalf of the whole Torus Group. This award would not have been possible if not for their hard work, dedication and focus.

“Being a Torus customer is more than just a having a roof over your head, it’s important that people can make the most of their home and wider environment, enabling them to thrive and reach their full potential.

“It’s nice to be recognised in this way – congratulations to all colleagues involved in the delivery of these vital and effective services, and congratulations to all the winners and category nominees.”

Extremely Proud

Kate Shone, Managing Director, Torus Foundation, said:

“We are extremely proud to be recognised this way for some of the support services we provide to local communities. I hope it helps us to raise further awareness of the services that are on offer for our customers.

“Torus Foundation leads on two European Structural Fund Projects managing partners to deliver outcomes through the New Leaf Cheshire and Springboard Cheshire programmes, helping to build skills, increase access to opportunities and remove barriers of finding work.

“Our approach is one of providing practical, tailored packages of support for Torus customers and wider communities. Our ‘person-focused’ approach helps us to respond to individual needs and aspirations, which, in turn, benefits the communities we serve.”
