Torus Achieves DAHA Accreditation

28 October 2024

Torus is proud to share that we have obtained accreditation status with the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA).

DAHA accreditation is the UK benchmark for how housing providers should respond to domestic abuse in the UK. It is the only project in the UK offering accreditation for the housing sector in this field of work. For the last three years, the Domestic Abuse Steering Group has been working alongside colleagues across the group to improve policy, procedure, and practice in relation to the identification of and response to both survivors and perpetrators of abuse.

Achieving accreditation is a significant achievement for Torus and we will continue to work alongside DAHA post accreditation to ensure that we continue to embed and build on our current approach.

Torus started working with DAHA in Dec 2021 to improve our response to domestic abuse across all three heartlands, through the introduction of a set of standards and an accreditation process.

Some key achievements and milestones relating to the DAHA Project include domestic abuse training for all housing and Torus Foundation colleagues, the development of a network of 20 Domestic Abuse Champions from across the group, the embedding of a safety led case management process, and strong partnership links being created with specialist services.

Between October 2023 and October 2024, the Domestic Abuse Housing Team recorded 1,236 domestic abuse cases for initial disclosures and repeat victims, completed 232 domestic abuse risk assessments and recorded 607 safeguarding considerations for adults and 349 for children at risk of domestic abuse.

Jo Aston, Safeguarding Officer and DAHA Project lead, said:

“I am incredibly proud to work for an organisation that is so committed to putting the needs of our tenants at the heart of what we do. Domestic abuse is a huge issue faced by so many and the work we have done so far to achieve accreditation means we are in a much better position to identify and offer support to those who need it”.

Paul Warburton, Group Head of Housing, continued:

“Torus is delighted to achieve accreditation with the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance. It is a significant achievement for the Group who has worked hard over the last three years to really transform the organisation’s approach and offer to those suffering from domestic abuse. It is essential that we as a landlord to play our role and contribute to the coordinated community response to tackling domestic abuse.”

Adela Lategan, DAHA Senior Regional Lead, added:

“Congratulations and thank you for your ongoing commitment to improving your response to domestic abuse.”
